Voter Education and Outreach Programs
Voter Registration Drives
Our office can provide citizens the opportunity to register to vote at community events. You may invite our office to be part of your event and we will assist citizens in registering to vote, updating their voter registration record (name, address, party affiliation, and signature updates), requesting vote-by-mail ballots and distribute general election information.
High School Student Government Elections
Our office encourages high schools around the county to use the real voting equipment to vote for their student government and class officers. Students are trained to work their election and staff the positions required just like a real polling place on election day. Students are check-in by their student poll worker and handed a ballot then place their voted ballot in the voting machine and receive and I VOTED sticker. Once they have voted they are also offered the opportunity to pre-register or register to vote for the real elections.
Sunshine State Young Reader's Awards (SSYRAP) and FTR Elections
For over a decade our Elections Office has offered Elementary and Middle Schools the opportunity to schedule their SSYRAP Elections. In 2017 we will introduce a new process allowing the students to vote using DoubleClick Democracy Online Voting which would allow more flexibility for the schools to schedule their election day around their busy spring schedule. With Online voting in place our office is now able to reach more student by providing access to the online ballot for the SSYRA Jr program as well as the Florida Teens Read (FTR) Program. Based on the SSYRAP standards, any student that reads 3 or more Sunshine State books is eligible to vote for their favorite book. Schools interested may send their request via email to email@example.com.
2017 - 2018 SSYRA St Johns County Participating Schools
Classroom presentations are geared to specific grade levels and include a discussion on the importance of voting, our local government and electoral process. Students have the opportunity to participate in a mock election and are also offered the opportunity to pre-register or register to vote.
